A Breakthrough in Disaster Communications
This is really good news. In situations like the tsunami, the Haitian earthquake, or even a U.S. hurricane, this simple cell technology could save lives and get help to where it is needed.

I understand the technology is different, but Sprint has had the ability for years for their "Direct Connect" to work outside of their network. It is nice that this method is non-proprietary and they're working to improve the range.
