Major Severe Weather Event in Progress

A major storm is moving across the Midwest at the present time. The Storm Prediction Center has maxed out the probability of damaging thunderstorm winds in the Midwest. The hatched area may have winds in excess of 75 mph.

The position of the line of thunderstorms at 7:20am Central time. Twenty thousand homes and businesses are without power in the St. Louis area.

High winds are likely throughout the Upper Midwest and northern Plains. And, the orange in North Dakota is a blizzard warning!   (click to enlarge any of these maps)

  1. Kids in the OHV should not be in school today. High Risk day, PDS watches out, and the scope of the severe weather is so massive. It isn't like on May 10th where initiation wasn't until the mid /late afternoon and the activity wasn't as widespread as this.

    Just my opinion.

  2. You have a valid point, in that this is an unusual event.

    I suspect school administrators feel "darned if they do, darned if they don't." That said, the number people without power is now well north of 150,000 and that number is climbing every hour.
