Nice Work, O'Hare International Airport

I seem to spend a lot of time at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. As I passed through last week, I was very pleased to see that storm shelters were in the process of being marked.

Looks like some airports are learning the lessons of the incidents at the St. Louis and Omaha airports earlier this year. Congratulations, O'Hare!

  1. Minneapolis also has them as well. I'm not sure if they always have, but I noticed quite a few prominently displayed exiting terminal E when I was there last weekend.

  2. Thanks, Matt. You may remember Minneapolis had a fatal tornado the same day as Joplin's.

Readers: Any other airports with marked storm shelters?

  3. I was through ORD during a Tornado Warning a few months ago, we were encouraged to head to the connector tunnel between terminals B and C. Nice to see they're dedicating some space to this.

  4. Mike, Kansas City has storm shelters marked in each terminal, and has for years. They utilize the stairways/tunnels to parking garages in each terminal

  5. I saw them in Memphis a few weeks ago as well. It's been so long since I'd been inside an airport that I wasn't aware it was a big deal.

  6. I know DEN has had them marked for a while.
