Because it is my home airport and I'm a very frequent flier, I'm on a first-name basis with a number of the TSA people at Wichita's Mid-Continent Airport. There are some dedicated and competent people working there.
That said, there are some total incompetents. As Kathleen and I drove up to the terminal yesterday, I pointed out five -- yes, five -- outdoors at the west end smoking. As I got out of the car, I saw a sixth, shirt untucked..looking like a slob..headed to join them. TSA = "thousands standing around" for a reason.
Now, there is this story of the TSA in Wichita declaring the young lady below a "security threat" for -- get this -- hugging her grandmother. The full story is here.
Out of civic pride, I'd love to tell you I doubt this story, but I do not for a second. As I say, I've had some very poor experiences with the TSA in Wichita.
Why isn't the TSA's misconduct and overreach an issue in this election?
While on the subject of Wichita airport news, Southwest will be coming to Wichita around the first of the year. I noticed they had a plane parked at the AirTran (Southwest purchased AirTran) gate most of yesterday morning.
