Today's Severe Weather Outlook

This forecast is a tough one. There is tremendous potential instability in the atmosphere in the central Plains that potentially extends toward Chicago. However, there are so many areas of showers and thunderstorms this morning, it is difficult to discern where the wind shift lines that will serve as trigger points late today will end up.

Here are two models that both forecast the location of thunderstorms at 7pm this evening:

There are two things I'd like to point out: Some strong thunderstorms are possible this afternoon in the Chicagoland area.  Strong thunderstorms are also likely in either southern Kansas or northern Oklahoma.
