Tornado Threat: Middle Atlantic States

A higher than normal threat for tornadoes exists in the Middle Atlantic states today and into this evening.

Since this is well outside of tornado alley, you may not be familiar with the probabilistic forecasts of tornado potential. Five percent is considered significant and ten percent (which includes Wilmington, Baltimore, Washington, Raleigh, and Richmond) is quite high for the region.

The 5% area includes Pittsburg, Harrisburg, Lynchburg and Greensboro.

Please monitor the weather for later watches and warnings in these areas.  There is also a relatively high threat of damaging thunderstorm wind in this same region.

AccuWeather is monitoring the situation and has more here.
