Important Insight Pertaining to Friday's Derecho

On numerous occasions, this blog has criticized the ridiculous amount of money we waste on the TSA when we spend next to nothing hardening the electric infrastructure against a giant solar storm like a Carrington Event or an ElectroMagnetic Pulse (EMP) attack from an enemy.  The latter is the far bigger threat.

Newt Gingrich made that point earlier today:

  1. Most people have no clue as to how quickly life would come to a grinding halt after an EMP. It's an instant trip back in time. No pacemakers, insulin pumps...not to mention air conditioning, computers, 99% of the vehicles on the road, etc. The list goes on and on. The book "One Second After" is one of the most graphic representations of an EMP attack. "Alas, Babylon" is another wonderful novel from the cold war era.
