Leaving Las Vegas

Kathleen and I just spent a few days in Las Vegas. The heat index was lower than in Wichita and most other cities east of the Rockies!

I have a few things to pass along to our readers in case they are useful.

Quick book reviews:
  • Freedom's Forge the story of how the U.S. mobilized for WWII. Incredible book. 5-stars.
  • Driving Mr. Yogi how Ron Guidry because the close friend and often chauffeur of Yogi Berra. 4.5 stars.
  • Singing Over Me survival in the Joplin tornado. Human interest story of the Joplin tornado. 4-stars.
We went to see Martin Short. Both Kathleen and I give him 2.5 stars out of 5. Parts were wonderful. Parts were awful and Mr. Short seemed to realize it. I'd rather have 60 minutes of great than 90 minutes of mixed great and poor. He did not have an opening act which is always a plus in my book.

We liked the Cosmopolitan Hotel even though it took four days to get a burnt out lightbulb over the bathroom sink replaced. Service in many parts of the hotel is a bit on the slow side. The rooms are very nice with good sound-proofing (never heard our neighbors) and love the balconies. Ours overlooked the Bellagio fountains. Both Kathleen and I give their buffet 5 of 5 stars. Wow!

If you eat at Holstein's, ask for Ashley to be your server. She is terrific.

Finally, best wishes to the bride in the white gown and cowboy hat and her groom. Only in Vegas...

I'll have a separate post about some interesting "weather-themed decor" in Vegas.
