Marion County Park and Lake has set a world record for the most people roasting marshmallows at once: 1,272 people, to be exact.
Originally, there were 1,282 entries, but 10 participants were disqualified when their marshmallows fell off their sticks or weren’t roasted enough, said Steve Hudson, the park’s superintendent. So, where did the wood come from? I always enjoy the way Kansans turn adversity into opportunity:
The world record came out of jokes about what to do with a large brush pile left after a windstorm in June 2011.
“Out of that bad storm came a really fun event and helped start (our) organization,” Volbrecht said. The full story is here.
Congratulations, Marion County!
