Dave Brubeck, RIP

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Dave Brubeck today. In reading various obituaries, I was surprised to learn that he scored a version of the Catholic Mass.

In 2009 he, Robert DeNiro, and Mel Brooks (quite a combination!) were part of that year's Kennedy Center Honors class. Here is the musical tribute:

His four sons' jazz quartet played as part of the Kennedy Center Honors. Their performance is included in the clip above.

Very talented man who will be greatly missed.

Thursday addition via John Knox at the University of Georgia:
I did not know about this, that Brubeck canceled a concert rather than give in to racists. Only further increases my esteem for Dave and my sense of loss at his passing. A genuinely great man.
