Texas Severe Storms Association Conference

Mike and I were in Colleyville Texas at the TESSA National Storm Conference over the weekend where the event started with a Super Storm Spotter Session followed by presentations on predicting storms, radar, tornado forensics, and education and safety going into tornado season.

The event was attended by approximately 500 trained weather spotters, meteorologists, emergency managers, forecasters and people with an interest in severe weather. The AMS, NWS and the NWA sponsored the conference with the hopes that this event would promote safety and a proactive attitude to get involved at a community level to make people aware of weather safety tips that can save lives.
A complete list of severe weather safety tips can be accessed on-line at http://tessa.org/safety_tips.html

Mike presented "Tornado Warnings: Success and Failure" to share with the group the goal to discuss both the successes and failures with an eye toward insuring success in the future. The past five years have been a period of unprecedented success for storm warning meteorologists and have also featured one tragic failure, when the warning system failed the community of Joplin.

Mike's book WARNINGS: The True Story of How Science Tamed the Weather is about some of the most massive storms of our lifetime and is available on Amazon. Mike's second book When The Sirens Were Silent is about the deadly Joplin tornado and is available in ebook form.
