Weather Pattern Brings Tragedy

Nineteen firefighters were killed in the Yarnell Hill wildfire last night when the wind shifted. The full story from the Arizona Republic is at the link. AccuWeather has information on how lightning causes wildfires.

Today will be another day of extreme heat in the West and cool, wet weather in the East.

In the East, it was the second coolest July morning in history at Little Rock as they had a low of 64°. The pattern of extremely wet weather continues:

AccuWeather Regional Radar shows that, for this early in the day, thunderstorms are already quite active. This also means another difficult day of air travel with delays already reported at Philadelphia and LaGuardia.

Here is a map of the flash flood watches and warnings. Note the deep magenta warnings corresponding to the heavier thunderstorms in northwest Pennsylvania and along the PA-NJ border. The  greens are flash flood watches.
