1pm CST Winter Storm Update

Here is the current AccuWeather Regional Radar depicting the storm:
There has been some sleet in the DFW Metroplex and the Little Rock Marathon has been postponed due to thunderstorms. The areas of darkest blue on the radar correspond to very heavy snow. We've even had some thunder with the snow here in Wichita.

Here is the forecast radar at 4pm CST.
The snow is blue with darker blues = heavier snows. Purples are ice (sleet and freezing rain) with the darker purples = heavier rates of freezing rain or sleet.

And, here is the forecast for 7pm.

Below is the Sperry-Piltz Ice Accumulation Index:

If you are in or close to the orange-red-purple areas, please be aware that power failures may occur.

Here are some suggestions for preparing for an ice storm:
  • Get extra cash from the ATM
  • Fill your gas tank (service stations' pumps don't work without electricity)
  • Get prescriptions refilled
  • If you live in a wooded area and have a chain saw, get fresh gasoline
  • Keep your cell phone and laptop fully charged
  • Get an inverter (they come in various sizes for different uses) so you can continue to keep your phone and computer operating by using your automobile. Inverters are often called a "poor man's generator." Remember, if you use your car for this purpose, make sure the garage door is open so carbon monoxide does not build up.
Finally, if you live in the Middle Atlantic Region, here are the forecast snow amounts.
AccuWeather has more on the storm.
