1pm: Winter Storm Has Begun
The winter storm has begun in the Plains.
We have freezing drizzle at the Smith House in northeast Wichita and the sidewalk and driveway are now slick. Thicker freezing drizzle ( = worse icing) is moving north and will make roads worse in southern Kansas the rest of the afternoon. Radar from 12:58pm.
Here is the forecast for 7pm CST. The purple is sleet or freezing rain. Blues are snows with the darker blues = heavier rates of snow. The radar under-depicts freezing drizzle.
By 1am, the storm has bloomed.
The scalloped-looking clouds from Lake Texoma to Memphis are light showers that are forecast to turn into thunderstorms during the night.
