Meteorologists Are Very Handy People

A meteorologist saves another life.

PEARL, Miss. — Alicia Jenkins fixed her eyes her television at home, hoping tornadoes would miss Madison, Miss., where her parents lived.
The 33-year-old teacher at Brandon Elementary School in nearby Brandon got a text around 6:30 p.m. CT Monday over her iPhone: "Large tornado near Richland!" less than 10 miles west.
It was from Derek Beasley, a friend and fellow Mississippi State University alum near Starkville, Miss., who is now chief meteorologist for WPMI-TV in Mobile, Ala. He always had been good to warn her when terrible weather came close.
Meteorologists likely saved more than a hundred lives the last five days. Someone should write a book about how meteorologists save lives.
